Custer's Last Stand

During the winter of 1875-76, the Indian Bureau and the U.S. Army ordered all Plains tribes to go into reservations. Thousands of Sioux, Cheyenne, and Arapaho gathered along the Little Bighorn under the leadership of Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse, determined to remain free of government control. There they defeated Custer on June 25, 1876, in a battle now known around the world.
